Turlock Woman Jailed For Credit Card Fraud
Thur, Sep 11, 2008
MODESTO, Calif.—A Turlock woman is headed to jail for stealing a Stanislaus County Supervisor's Social Security number to open credit cards and ring up more than $9,000 in charges.
Serena Essapour was sentenced to 180 days in jail after pleading no contest to three felony counts in July. She's set to begin serving her sentence Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Essapour was hired by Supervisor Jim DeMartini to do temporary work for the Republican Central Committee.
DeMartini denied rumors that he had a romantic relationship with Essapour, but acknowledged helping her get a new car by paying $6,500 for a down payment and co-signing a $21,600 loan in June 2005.
A year later, Essapour used DeMartini's personal information to open two credit cards and go on a spending spree at 107 stores.
